—Forensic Consultant

Professional Profile

Mr. Whetsel brings a wide breadth and depth of Transportation Safety Engineering experience to his role as a Forensic Consultant with Focus Forensics LLC. As a researcher, he was the author of peer-reviewed journal publications in the Transportation Engineering literature on traffic signalization, traffic control devices, and new technology applications to traffic flow. His past employment with both State Department of Transportation and with Federal agencies included responsibilities related to design engineering, construction management and inspection skills, quality assurance, estimating, project management, disaster incident response, facility management, and the planning and execution of maintenance programs.

Mr. Whetsel’s skills and experience in Transportation Safety Engineering include investigations and inspections of roadway and intersection environments, CAD diagramming and visualizations, and the analysis and evaluation of safety issues related to the design, construction, inspection, operation, control, and maintenance of roadways, pedestrian facilities, transit, and other transportation environments.

At Focus Forensics, Mr. Whetsel brings his knowledge of human, vehicular, and roadway factors to the analysis of collision events and Transportation Engineering systems. His engineering consulting practice involves the investigation and analysis of incidents involving a wide scope of vehicle classifications– passenger vehicles, motorcycles pedestrians, commercial vehicles, buses, emergency vehicles, and other modes of travel. His roadway evaluation includes roadway geometry, operations, maintenance, construction, signalization, signs and marking, roadside safety hardware, clear zone issues, and temporary traffic controls. His application of comprehensive engineering methodology allows clients to comprehend all of the causes and potential countermeasures for a given incident or pattern of safety issues.
